Good Friday: “We have no king but Caesar!”
“So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate *said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” - John 19:15
By proclaiming Caesar as their king they reveal the truth of their hearts. The abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Their heart toward God was exposed. Their religion was superficial. Their religion was not in the God of the OT but in their own personal horizontal interest. They were truly blind as Jesus pointed out.
In the same way today people who claim to be “Christians” but reject God’s word and His revealed will, their hearts are exposed. Especially in today’s political climate and competing political ideologies. We see this when the lies of political propaganda are spoken of as truth. When “Christians” support the murder of image bearers of God in the womb. When they support judging people by the color of their skin instead of the content of the character or their actions (CRT). When we see support of those who make the rules but do not follow the rules they make. When we see “Christian” support political ideologies that promote sexual immorality, the criminal more than the victims, chaos more than order, LGBTQ agenda more than God’s agenda. Who have become so politically party minded that they now filter God’s word through their political ideology or their political preference takes precedence over God’s revealed will.
“[Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),…in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments...See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 10:5, Colossians 2:2-4,8
