How should followers of Jesus Christ vote in the USA?

Christians that live in the USA have a unique privilege not found in any other pluralistic society on planet earth. We have true freedom of speech, particularly when it comes to matters of politics.

When Christians vote how should we vote?

  1. Should we vote for a particular party? or
  2. Should we vote for a particular person? or
  3. Should we vote for particular ideas?

If it’s a person then the question is can you really know who that person is? Maybe there is a track record of how they voted in the past. Maybe they were members of certain organizations. These are factors that should be considered to some degree.

What about the character issue? This is a tough one. Why? Unless there is some kind of criminal record of laws being violated (even this can be suspect) or undeniable evidence (stained blue dress) we can’t really know a person unless we are their personal friends and family. Even then those people might have an agenda one way or another.

We really can’t trust the media. Because all media outlets have a bias, whether conservative or liberal, and will diminish one person’s flaws or exaggerate another person’s flaws. They will ignore one person’s flaws and then laser focus on another person’s flaws.

If it’s Party then you’re basically voting for an agenda. An agenda is a collection of ideas that the party wants to make the law of the land. Therefore question 1 and 3 are almost the same. And this is what Christian’s should be voting for.

Now voting is what would be considered a deed. Deeds are to be done in the name of Jesus to the glory of God.

What are some scriptural guiding principles we should use to inform us how we are to vote?

1. Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

When we vote this is a DEED. Does your vote conform to God’s will for humanity?

2. Matthew 6:10 “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

When we vote do the ideas of a party or person align more with God’s will or the worlds will?

3. 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

When we vote do you use the standard of Jesus’ will to examine and measure the policies of the argument a person or party makes to enact laws. Do we take these policies captive and see if they obey His will?

Conclusion: As Christians we are not to vote according to a particular political party. As Christians we vote for a person that has ideas that most align with God’s will as revealed in scripture not based on the skeletons they have in their closet.

We in good conscience cannot support a national law allowing the murder of unborn image bearers of God.

We in good conscience cannot support ideas that wants to redefine what family looks like.

We cannot vote to pass laws that would encourage and allow children to mutilate their bodies, sometimes not even requiring parental consent.

We cannot vote for a party that wants to enforce laws that would allow LGBTQ2+ couples to get married to one another.

We cannot support a party that's in favor of a parent possibly losing custody of their child because they don't affirm that child's decision to transition.

We cannot vote for a party that is in favor of little children of opposite Sexes sharing bathrooms together.

We cannot vote for our daughters to one day have to compete athletically against a biological male.

We cannot vote for open borders; God doesn’t even have open borders for His kingdom
